Military figures are adult figures for ages 15 and up. They allow you to recreate special forces and soldiers from movies and FPS games with high quality. While the American GI Joe is famous, the 1/6 and 12-inch sizes are the main sizes. There may be slight size differences depending on the manufacturer, but weapons, combat uniforms, helmets, and equipment are generally compatible [some modifications may be required for attachment]. In Japan, there are hardly any stores that carry these in Akihabara, so online purchases are the main way to acquire them. At the highest quality, figures can be made that are indistinguishable from humans.
