Sun-worshipping Syrah and Grenache – star grapes of France’s Rhône Valley – also flourish in the southern Pays d’Oc region, which Decanter calls “an innovative, fast-moving sector with many wines to set the pulses racing.”
In other words, if you love big, rich reds? This is the place (and the wine) for you.
Cuvée Dissenay is a 70/30 Syrah/Grenache blend that packs a wallop. Look for intense aromas of ripe red strawberry and blackberry that mingle with hints of cracked black pepper and dried herbs (known as garrigue). Succulent, smooth and concentrated on the palate, it’s dangerously drinkable – the perfect “unwinding on a Friday night” kind of wine.
Meal time? This will be a winner with roasted game meats or beef, cheesy pizza, grilled veggie skewers, or a hearty sausage lasagna.
