According to National Electrical Code, only a 15-amp or 20 amp electrical receptacle can be installed to a 20-amp circuit. A 15 amp GFCI Receptacle Outlet may also be installed on a 15 amp circuit. However, a 20 amp WR GFCI Outlet Receptacle may not be installed to a 15-amp circuit. The National Electric Code states that, at a minimum, a bathroom, kitchen, room, garage, outdoor needs one GFCI protected Outlet Receptacle.
