First edition, fifth printing hardcover copy of The Codebreakers: The Story of Secret Writing by David Kahn (The Macmillan Company, 1967). This copy printed in 1969. A massive volume covering a wide variety of cyphers, code makers and codebreakers, encryption machines, and other forms of covert communication systems. With illustrations and photographs throughout. Jacket now protected in new archival sleeve but with moderate wear, especially around the edges. Tears to top edge of back cover which are taped on reverse side. Some soiling to boards from handling and age and with corners bumped. Binding is split in a few gutters and text block sagging at top of book, though spine remains fairly straight. All pages clean and unmarked. See photos for condition.
