We have two of these hats. Each listed separately. One has a black and white small checkered lining and the other has a colorful large checkered lining.
My parents brought these hats home from a visit to China, Korea and Japan in the late 1990's. Made in China.
The have never been worn. So very ornate and super unusual.
This hat/cap was woven with a pattern featuring the five poisonous creatures: snake, centipede, scorpion, toad, and spider. Their protective qualities are called upon during the festival of Duanwu, also known as the Dragon Boat Festival, which occurs on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. The Chinese believe wearing clothes or using an object with representations of these creatures during the festival can ward off evil.
Beautifully hand made in six panels. The panda is on the front of each hat, slightly different.
